This week ComScore, an internet research firm, released its comScore MobiLens research study that surveyed more than 30,000 U.S. mobile subscribers. Based on 1st Quarter results, as of March, 234 million Americans ages 13 and older used mobile devices.

Smartphones continue to grow; 72.5 million people in the U.S. own them, up 15 percent from the preceding three-month period.  And the iPhone doesn’t have this market tied up yet. Google Android grew 6.0 percentage points to 34.7 percent market share, while RIM ranked second with 27.1 percent. Apple grew 0.5 points to 25.5 percent share, followed by Microsoft (7.5 percent) and Palm (2.8 percent). Some other stats: 68.6 percent use text messaging, 27.3 percent access social networking sites or blogs, 25.7 percent play games, and 17.9 percent of users listen to music. 

What does all this mean? If you haven’t look at using mobile advertising technology, your consumer might be reaching the future before you.
